Meet our drummer Dylan!
As the youngest member of Duct Tape, Drummer Dylan Gabriele developed his passion for drumming when he was two years old on a toy desktop drum set surrounded by Kentucky Fried Chicken buckets. A pair of chopsticks serving as drumsticks. At three Dylan progressed to an electronic kit where he relentlessly played along to the White Stripes Seven Nation Army. He began taking drum lessons at age five and moved on to an acoustic Ludwig Jr. 5 piece set with Meinl cymbals. That same year he opened up the Newport Elementary School talent show drumming to Bruno Mars “Uptown Funk” resulting in a standing ovation. That was all Dylan needed, he has been hooked on performing ever since. Along the way he has drummed for many talent shows, recitals, drum fill-ins, parades, guest appearances, and live shows.
Dylan linked up with his band mates through the music school where they all took lessons. The band coach heard Dylan’s playing and recommended he try out for the band. It was a perfect fit as Dylan clicked with Noah, JJ, Jake, and Parker immediately. After several rehearsals and a few shows later they brought Tommy on board and decided to rebrand. Duct Tape was born!
Dylan plays a 7 piece Tama Superstar with 2 floor toms, 3 mounted toms, bass, and snare. He uses Zildjian A Series cymbals plus an added Zildijan A Series China cymbal. A highlight to his kit is the official Tommy Lee signature cowbell! For sticks Dylan alternates between Vader-Jay Weinberg signatures, Ahead-Lars Ulrich signatures, and Vic Firth’s 5A. In addition to Jay Weinberg and Lars Ulrich, Dylan’s influences include Joey Jordison, Nicko McBrain, and Neil Peart. Some of his favorite bands include SlipKnot, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ghost, Kiss, Ozzy, and Jack White.
In addition to performing with Duct Tape Dylan enjoys going to concerts, playing piano, and writing his own compositions, where his musical creations have come in 1st place two years in a row at the Newport School District Art Reflections contest. He is also avid in Jiu Jitsu where he is training towards his yellow belt with a black stripe. This summer he will be entering his 3rd season of the Newport Beach Jr. Lifeguard program. In his free time Dylan loves hanging with his little brother Tyler and his snake Stilton.
