Meet our guitarist Jake!
Meet Jake Sligar, the football-loving kid turned Rockstar who was born to shred on guitar.
One Christmas break in 2016, his life changed forever when his uncle gave him a black acoustic guitar that had traveled all the way from Amsterdam to England, and finally to the USA, just so it could land in Jake's hands. Despite the guitar's massive size, Jake laid it in his lap and effortlessly plucked out the tune to Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line."
Inspired by his newfound talent, he enrolled in an after-school program for Beginning Guitar. However, after just one lesson, Jake came home complaining that he didn't want to learn "Twinkle Twinkle" and "Happy Birthday." Recognizing his potential, we found a young guitar teacher, and he asked Jake what he wanted to learn. Jake's response - "Back in Black by AC/DC!" The rest was history!
Since then, Jake has never looked back. Jake's cousin Mason, a seasoned guitar player from Nashville, was instrumental in teaching Jake how to solo and has acted as a mentor to him. Mason also taught Jake the 12 bar blues and got him comfortable playing with other musicians, helping him gain confidence and stage presence. Jake cites AC/DC, Van Halen, and Jimi Hendrix as some of his biggest musical inspirations, and has dreamed of playing for Guns N' Roses since he first held a guitar.
Jake's go-to guitar is the PRS (Paul Reed Smith) SE 24 Standard in Translucent Blue, which he loves the guitar's versatility and the way it feels in his hands. Jake has also been experimenting with different effects pedals, and one of his favorites is the Plumes Overdrive pedal by Earthquaker Devices. The Plumes gives his guitar a warm, classic overdrive sound that's perfect for bluesy solos and driving rock riffs. With his PRS guitar and Plumes pedal, Jake is able to create a unique and powerful sound that sets him apart from other guitarists.
Jake also enjoys playing the drums and mixing his own music. In his spare time, he loves nothing more than hitting the trails for some mountain biking, catching waves on his surfboard, and hanging out with friends at the beach.
